Winter Gloaming
Some of our photos come easy and others require a lot of effort. As the sun started to set we pre-empted this shot in the Mourne Mountains, Co.Down. Unfortunately, we were about a mile away from where we need to be to make it happen. We ran as fast as we could across the rocky path through the Mournes, hoping that we’d make it to the right spot in time (and that we wouldn’t break an ankle).
We got to the spot just in time for the sky to turn pink over the darkening mountains. We couldn’t have been happier with what we saw (after we caught a breath).
We prefer the word gloaming to dusk. Gloaming sounds more like a verb than a noun - that the day itself has its own purpose, and better suits the transient light you’d find at this time of the day.
This has been one of our most popular prints, something that thrills us no end as we so nearly missed it.
